I got up a bit early again this morning to do a BDS, and I'm happy to report that I did not step in any water. Also, the maintenance people came yesterday and fixed the clogged drain and cleaned the carpet--yay for renting!
Before I sat down for my BDS, I talked with my dad on the phone and found out some sad news. I was still kind of stewing over it all when I wanted to start my BDS, so I decided to begin my session by writing about it. Here's the post: Thoughts on Cell Phones, Loss, and Fear. This took about 15 minutes, and when my cell phone timer went off, I got up and stretched a bit.
Then I sat down again to see what I could do with Comps. I only had another 15 minutes, so I decided to take that time and review notes and write a blog post. Here's what I wrote: Terms of Work for Composition. Basically, I took this time to review notes, follow up on things I was curious about, and isolate main ideas. I realize that I won't be able to do this for every chapter of every book. but I figure this isn't a bad way to start: slow and steady, right?
After my alarm went off again (15 minutes), I got up, stretched, sat back down and started writing this.
I think that getting my more personal, emotive, emotional thoughts down first made it easier for me to focus on my Comps task. Sure, it took time away from Comps reading and writing, but it helped me think through a complicated thing that was heavy on my shoulders--I should remember this for the future.
