This morning marks my first attempt at doing my bds in the morning, before I go to school to teach and attend class. I woke up a bit earlier (at 7:00), spent about an hour getting myself ready, making coffee, making lunches, feeding the cats, etc. Then, at 8:00 I sat down on the couch with my WGST 1120 materials and took inventory of what I have to do in my new Composition Notebook dedicated to this project. I had options, but I knew I only wanted to work for 30 minutes. So, I decided to take that time to read over the teaching resources available for Chapter 2--I highlighted, marked, selected relevant information.
At 15 minutes in, my alarm went off. I did a tongue check. I forgot to get up and stretch, though--my mind is kind of slow in the morning.
At 8:25, I finished reading what I wanted to read, so I did another inventory in my notebook and set my agenda for next time. I had a couple minutes let before my 30 minute bds was up (and my alarm would go off), so I took a couple minutes to write in my new gratitude journal and write a thank you note.
My alarm went off at 8:30, and I feel quite pleased with what I accomplished.
I also feel tired, though--I'm not sure if doing my bds work in the morning is going to be ideal long term when I'm regularly leaving for campus at 9:10 am. But, I'll continue to try it and see what happens.
Next semester, I don't need to be to campus until 11:00 every day of the week--I think that will be an ideal time to do writing and Comps work. I can get up around 7:00/7:30 and have at least an hour of bds time available--it isn't a huge chunk of time, but I can probably get a good amount of reading and reflecting/note-taking done in that time, with other time available in the evenings.

ReplyDeleteWay to go. This sounds like it might be a viable way to get your writing done in the AM, and then still be able to go swimming in the PM. Or, you know, watch very well-officiated little league games :)
